Been getting lots of questions about the tooth…
So here are some answers out of context:
They gave me the tooth to take home because I asked for it. Once we were finished, the doctor said, “Do you want to see it?” And I said, “See it? I want to keep it!” He laughed, but they disinfected it and sent me home with it. Simple as that.
My face isn’t swelling, and the bleeding has pretty much stopped, but the scariest part about the aftermath is the abyss in my gums. I can’t really look at it. I don’t want to. I can’t wait for my wisdom tooth to migrate down into that gap. Because, yes, I have a big gap where that molar used to live.
I wouldn’t say I’m so much eating as I am just swallowing food that requires no chewing, but my meals so far have been made up of applesauce (which is strange and sort of jelly-like in England), hummus, lukewarm rice (can’t eat anything too hot), and pudding. It’s a bland and boring diet and I can’t wait until I can have interesting food again.
Strangely, the most uncomfortable part of the whole thing was right after they pulled the tooth and I was standing at reception settling the bill, and I got this incredible wave of heat all over. I had to step outside for some fresh air because I thought I was going to be sick. And then I walked home in my t-shirt even though it was only about 50 degrees out. It’s weird to feel your whole body start to freak out on a physiological level. I didn’t like that one bit.
